If you're like most people, the onset of fall and winter automatically churns thoughts of hitting the slopes. You long for a blizzard of white that blankets the ground with powder setting the perfect stage for a downhill run. As one of the top ski resorts in the eastern United States, Ober Gatlinburg offers a variety of trails as well as other types of fun for the whole family.
You'll find eight ski trails serviced by three ski lifts that can usher 6,000 people per hour up the slopes. With an average snowfall of 35 inches each year, Gatlinburg, TN is a prime ski destination. Even in drought conditions, Ober Gatlinburg lets you hit the slopes because of its capability to make snow that can cover 100% of its trails.
Skiing for Newbies
Two beginner slopes give newbies a chance to test their legs before heading too far up the mountain. Because beginner slopes can be crowded, it's nice to have the additional space of a second area designated specifically to those learning to ski.
Instruction is available as are ski rentals. For those who have never skied before, you're smart to rent skis rather than buy until you decide if this is a sport you want to pursue.
Intermediate Runs
Four intermediate slopes extend to the top of the mountain, giving avid skiers plenty of space to schuss their way to the bottom. With lots of variety, the diversity of these slopes ensures a day filled with fun and interesting runs. Choose the length you prefer from 1,100 to 4,400 feet with maximum vertical drops up to 556 feet.
Advanced Slopes
Two black diamond slopes can be found at Ober Gatlinburg. Expert ski enthusiasts will get their thrills on the Mogul Run and Grizzly slopes which test both your skill and endurance.
Not a Skier?
No problem! Ober Gatlinburg has plenty for the entire family to enjoy on or off skis. With a complete amusement park on-site, you can ride the tram up the mountainside to a world of fun. Ice skating rink, bungee run, arcade, wildlife encounter, fun house, Velcro wall and shooting range are all available.
Snowboarding and tubing can also be found at Ober Gatlinburg. Snowboarders enjoy the same slopes as skiers, while tubers have their own, dedicated lanes.
Cabin Rentals
When you rent a cabin in the Smoky Mountains, you can enjoy the entire area including Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg. With close proximity to all the exciting things to do plus full kitchens and more space than hotels, it really is the best value for your money.
If the snow is calling you, answer with a trip to the Smokies. Bring the whole family. Whether or not they ski, everyone will have a fabulous time at Ober Gatlinburg.
